A clarification on the misinformation surrounding the mandatory ISP filtering debate.

Update: The scope of the proposed censorship regime has since changed to banning Refused Classification (RC) material. Practically all material in the RC category is legal to view and possess.

Remember to vote BELOW the line in the Senate and place Labor right near the bottom so that they can't benefit from your preferences or any preference deals. Same goes for Family First, etc.

Sure does have preferences (and it's a proportional representational system as well). There's a large number of boxes below the line where voters can fill out their most preferred candidates....to Conroy (if in Victoria). That way, your vote goes exactly where you say it will, not where parties decide your vote goes.

The biggest Conroy lie is that child porn is classed as Refused Classification material.

Child Porn is Illegal and criminal material.

No paedophile or child pornographer has ever submitted their material to the Australian classification Board for classification.

The lies and half-truths being told by Conroy to try to blur the lines between legal (all RC material) and Illegal material (child porn) in order to sell the Internet Filter are appalling.

@unclech0pper In a library or video store I cannot simply access illegal content via a proxy server, file sharing program or via peer to peer networking. Your emotive examples also fail to address the other content which is blocked: banned films, books, politically motivated issues (abortion/euthanasia) and other information the state doesn't trust it's citizens with. I guess because you said "child porn" then you think you win. You don't.

If the Government is going to stop me from looking at child porn, rape and snuff videos on the internet then what is next? Are they going to ban them in libraries and video stores as well?

@gongo3090 I was glad I left Aus as well and moved back to my home country NZ. Then our government pulled a fast one. They claimed after watching the debate over Australia's ISP filter that it would be too costly and ineffective to implement. Then they chucked one in on the sly, no one noticed until they had actually attempted to put it thorough legislation and now they have. Sure it is an optional filter (for ISP's that is) but it is ineffective and wasting our money and they did it on the sly.
