Xperia X10 Mini - Typing using an on-screen QWERTY keyboard.

I couldn't hold out for the Pro version (with the slide-out keyboard) and I simply cannot stand the stock T9 text entry so I decided to download a different keyboard. This is after about 20 minutes of use (still getting used to it.) Fortunately my fingers are quite small and I don't really have any troubles navigating around the board. For others this could be a problem but if you're stuck with the mini or don't want to shell out extra for the slide-out, this could be for you. It's very responsive in my opinion. Though I did make a few mistakes, the auto-suggestions really make the process extremely quick, although in this video I tried to limit the amount I used it for demonstration purposes. The angle I had to use it in whilst maintaining a good view from the camera is also a factor. I'm using Smart Keyboard Pro which can be downloded from the Android market. Using the HTC skin which comes preloaded. You can download the free version, but there isn't support for suggested words and custom dictionaries.

Also, for anyone who has given up on the qwerty due to no landscape mode in messaging, download Handcent SMS from the android market. It has completely revolutionized my messaging and supports auto rotation etc.

I got big ol' thumbs and I sometimes make errors while typing on my Galaxy S Captivate (about the same size as the Arc S). Would I have trouble using the Xperia Active? (Asking cause it's about the same size as the x10 mini and I can't find a video of someone type with the Active)

i actually bought the mini pro it was reasonable cheap compared to other devices and i love it!!!! there were only 3 downsides the screen scratches verry easy (without protection) and some of the sony ericsson software like the launcher doesnt offer much options i now use the go dev launcher and it works great!! i cant install apps on my sdcard so im running out of space on my onboard memory does anybody know how to get a higher version of android on this phone. SE wont upgrade it plz pm me
