2008 Olympic Torch, San Francisco

Van Ness St, between Pacific & Broadway - San Francisco, CA

Turns out noone knew the torch was going to change route & come down Van Ness. I was home because I had a minor procedure done this morning & all the sudden heard sirens & helicopters overhead. I go out on my balcony to see tons of people lining the block down on Van Ness. After 3 minutes of taping from my balcony - I ran down to find the baricade passing right in front of me over Pacific (my street) and down towards Broadway. Pretty freakin' cool. Tons of cops - which felt a bit much - but the athletes did walk casually, pausing for pictures. It wasn't too nuts with protestors since it was the 'alternate route' so it felt nice to see them come down Van Ness with little to no traffic, tons of sunshine & true supporters clapping & cheering instead of the loud Tibet v China rants you heard drowning out the celebration elsewhere (as peaceful as it was).
