Thanks for that islanderview,
I'm afraid the Beacon tends to go straight from my doormat into the bin...I often think I should take a look but I tend to go into auto-pilot mode when it arrives...conditioning I guess, kind of Pavlov's dog with a bit less dribbling...lol
As you no doubt have seen there has been some strong feelings regarding this issue in the comments...more or less 50/50, but theyweren't happy at the price of the beer at the event, so whether it was "free" is doubtful.

(Part Three)
Questions about the event were raised by members of the public at the September meeting of the Town Council, which is now extremely concerned that, if the scooter clubs decide not to return to the Island next year, Ryde will suffer economically as a result. The Town Council would therefore like to clearly state that it will not be able to give its support to the future hire of this site for the same, or a similar, event next year.
-
(Part Two)
The comments made were almost wholly negative, with criticism of the lack of engagement by the organisers with scooterists, the impact of the event on local businesses and the use of a site that has always previously been a key meeting place for the scooterists and their bikes. Petitions from local businesses and scooterists expressing these concerns were handed to Town Council members, along with emails from scooterists showing their negative and emotive responses.

From October's Ryde Beacon 2008 (Part One)
Lazy afternoon Gets Scooterists Worked Up!
The annual Scooter Rally-goers - its not music to their ears
During the recent Lazy Afternoon event, a free music affair organised by local businessmen on the Western Gardens over the August Bank Holiday weekend, many Ryde Town Council members were approached by local businesses, representatives of the scooter clubs and other members of the public.

Well SOMEONE must know who organized it!!...didn't just magic itself there..... :0)
Nah...Keep the Green for the Scoots...In the early Eighties we had to fight to park on it as the Plod always moved us around...always beeen the best place to crash and chill-out....if I want a beer,I'll go across to the 'Lud...What pissed me off the most was the 'FREE PARKING' sign...its ALWAYS been free parking...

The free parking sign this year probably means the council are going to make you pay next year....I wouldnt put it past them.

O.k,so was it the Council who was behind all this.?...not VFM by all accounts...a straight forward answer would be most conducive.....the next issue of scootering should be very interesting!!

I wouldn't know if the council were behind it or not....one thing I do know though is that if there is something that is a success and running smoothly on the Island they will invariably come along andfuck it up...I even don't think they purposely do so, its just that they haven't got a clue and they are arrogant fools besides...a disastrous combination.

cont.
Take the rejuvenated IOW Festival for instance, they (the council) were insistent that they alone were going to run it against all logic...and in its first year it was a disaster which cost the council tax payers here a fortune...after which they were forced to hand it over to professional organisers...and look at it now, it makes a fortune.
