PLEASE READ! IMPORTANT!

First off, I want to thank everyone who's watched my videos and supported me with kind and encouraging comments. It really means a lot, and it gives me hope that this new series of videos will be very popular.

Second, I have to say that I am in NO WAY an authority on Lakota culture. The information I'm presenting is essentially my translation of Luther Standing Bear's own words. If anything I present here strays from his words, known facts, or is speculation I will point it out. I realize that some of what I present may contradict popular knowledge. If that's the case, then it is because Luther Standing Bear's viewpoints differ from the mainstream. If in my interpretation of his work I incorrectly portray the Lakota, then I apologize ahead of time and urge anyone with proper information (or differing viewpoints) to post a comment and point out what they believe needs correction. The comment pages for these videos should be a forum where we can exchange ideas and learn more.

As I was reading LAND OF THE SPOTTED EAGLE, I realized that this book is a miracle and a treasure. I did not realize that such a vivid picture of Lakota life existed in print. It affected me so much that I'm compelled to share it with as many people as possible. It is my firm belief that the Lakota people epitomize the best that human nature has to offer when we put our minds to fairness, kindness, equality and the acceptance of the mystery of being alive. If this video grabs your interest, then do yourself a favor and get a hold of this book.

I hope you enjoy the video and yearn for more. I get a great deal of satisfaction building these videos up from my simple desire to help people see the world in a new way.

  • may i recommend My People The Sue also by Luther Standing Bear

  • @stevenmartinez1965d1 Yes, thank you. I've heard of this book but I believe its out of print, but I'm sure I can find it online.

  • Thats another lie,the women did not own the tipis. And yea if the CHIEFS agreed to migrate than they would and no woman could stop them from doing it because the cheif is the leader of the indian tribe.

  • That is no lie, the women owned EVERYTHING except the mens weapons and battle regalia. That is how you can tell they were matriarchal. If as man found his belongings outside the tipi, it meant his wife divorced him. Only the women built and moved the tipis. This is all recorded from the mouths of Lakota themselves. When the Chiefs agreed to move their bands, the women welcomed it because it usually meant more meat, which they owned, and it allowed them to clean house. Everyone worked in harmony.

  • If someone knows "selenadelos", please get this message to her. She closed her YouTube account. I've taken a long time thinking about your words about your people and Christians. I do respect your people and feelings. Please know that there are many false Christians. A true Christian will live a life of love as Christ lived. Christ said, "Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ A true Christian will live a life of love as Christ lived.

  • Those who survived had to assimilate spanish customs and religion..

  • At least lakota still survived, other natives in other countries were not so lucky, in nicaragua almost the entire pacific coast and the central part of the country was wiped out, majority were enslaved to work in gold mine in peru and bolivia, and there is so little of those natives culture,

  • Peace.

  • This is the type of knowledge I have sought. Thank you so much for this insight.

  • My grandparents, who were both part Indian, visited the Lakota reservations on their visit to South Dakota and have donated lots of money to them. In return, they've received Lakota-made jewelry and crafts, such as dreamcatchers and blankets.

  • The Lakota were a society lead by men. The men decided when to move, what to do, etc. The women ran the home which is a tipestola, not tipi. Women put up and took down the home when the camp moved. Men only had their personal belongings, thats it. Some other tribes are different. I am Lakota, from the Wakpa Waste Oyanke. Mnikoju Lakota hemancayelo.

  • @zacuan Yes the women ran the house, which is really called tipestola, not tipi, tipi means they live there....tipestola is a word we use to describe a cone shaped house. In Lakota we did not use the word chief.

Good news: Sioux scouts killed Osama Ben Laden.

Honour to those Sioux Scouts for their courage !

HUGE MORAL VICTORY for South Dakota Sioux !!

There's no hate in this post, just a fair tribute as Sioux have been always died for the USA killed by USA or just serving that country...
