From the cab of ancient ALCOs we watch Delaware-Lackawanna local train LL-1 shove heavies of plastic pellets through the Crown Avenue Tunnel in Scranton, PA.
The unique "switchback" operation of LL-1 to serve it's customers make for interesting operations in a multi-mile, uphill shove. You can hear the ALCO 244 prime mover screaming it's sound through the 100-year old tunnel.
The "LL-1" moniker comes from this local serving industries along the former Laurel Line Railway (Lackawanna & Wyoming Valley RR, Interurban, Scranton to Wilkes-Barre). The mile-long tunnel was once part of the Laurel Line main between the 2 anthracite cities.
