Boehner Floor Speech on Democrats' Half-Trillion Dollar Spending Bill

House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) today delivered remarks on the House floor opposing Democrats $410 billion omnibus spending bill. Boehner and his House GOP leadership colleagues urged Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) to post the massive spending bill online weeks ago and called for a federal spending freeze, free of taxpayer-funded earmarks. The Democratic leadership refused, however, allowing the bill to be written in secret and revealed to the American people only two days ago. Hidden in the legislation are some 9,000 earmarks and a provision that will eliminate the District of Columbias highly-popular school choice program serving nearly 2,000 low-income students.

In his speech, Boehner urged the President to veto the nearly half-trillion dollar spending legislation and pledged Republican support to uphold a veto.

Mr. Boehner--- Thank you so very much for watching out for us, for working for us. I can't figure out what's going on with the bail outs and stimulus. We do these things (last year's bailouts) and we don't see results. So why continue? Where are the assessment benchmarks to see if this spending worked, is working or will work? I'm starting to feel an "us" "them" mentality. This country is an unhealthy patient.

What can we conservatives do? Our country is lost. Today we have all been sentenced to pay higher taxes and receive little to nothing in return. The midterm elections can not get here soon enough.

2 my classmates and me usually read 800 pages on philosophy a week, 2000pages long is really not a big deal. some researches in the bill take the experts several years.
