we would percieve islamic individuals soo poorly if they didn't blow something up or riot everytime there religion is ridiculed in a newspaper or movie.

that's what happens when you have a multicultural society. Not everyone mixes, and the situation becomes more difficult because Europe is not as remote to North Africa compared to Asia. There will not be full assimilation because in Europe people are classified according to race and religion, the latter the Arab/Mulsim population values very much still.

By the way, I am not a muslim, I am simply an observer.
