Kathleen Ferrier sings Mahler's Kindertotenlieder.

Nun will die Sonn' so hell aufgehn,

Now the sun will rise as brightly
as if no misfortune had occurred in the night.
The misfortune has fallen on me alone.
The sun - it shines for everyone.

You must not keep the night inside you;
you must immerse it in eternal light.
A little light has been extinguished in my household;
Light of joy in the world, be welcome.

  • Mahler's song cycle Kindertotenlieder (Songs for dead children) is sublime and Kathleen Ferrier is the ultimate singer for Mahler.

    All of her recordings are gifts for the listener.

  • Never try to listen kindertotenlieder

    sang by Kathleen Ferrier

  • This is one of the most beautiful recordings of all time. Ferrier is so touching and full of courage at the same time. Her voice is captured perfectly. Walter and the Vienna Philharmonic provide clarity and when needed a warm carpet of sound.

  • If you have forgotten that your heart has been broken, Mahler will remind you...

  • Kathleen Ferrier ist sehr früh verstorben, aber mit diesen Liedern bleibt sie in einprägender Erinnerung!

  • Ferrier was unique. There are several books about her, one by her sister, Winifred, and a book of reminisces by Bruno Walter, Benjamin Britten, Gerald Moore etc. She

    will never be forgotten.

  • Oui. Une interprétation à tomber. :))

    "O morte crudele,, a tutti infedele" Stefano Landi, passacaglia della vita.

  • Actually, Mahler was Freud's patient.

  • Interesting thought, bearing in mind that Gustav Mahler lived about at the same time as Sigmund Freud.

  • So utterly beautiful-Mahler of course, tapped into the psychology of grief before the psychologists-ie anger, then acceptance.

  • I agree with bscliff1 !
