Basques in Reno for NABO 09

Basque culture was showcased in Reno, Nevada, during the July 24-26, 2009, weekend when well over 1,000 people attended the 30th annual NABO convention. NABO, or the North American Basque Organizations, represents about 40 Basque clubs in the United States and Canada. The event featured colorful dance performances, as well as impressive strength demonstrations by women and men who chopped wood, hoisted huge granite balls and carried heavy metal weights. And, as always, festival goers enjoyed sumptuous Basque food, which was prepared by volunteers from Renos Zazpiak Bat Basque Club, which hosted the event.
