truckie41, That siren in both the Sterling model 20 and the model 30 is what was mounted on virtually every American La France Fire Apparatus for 30 plus years. And your right, It sounds like a "Fire Truck" should!! Sweet sounding siren!

Why did they take off the superchief?

It wasn't a Super Chief. It was an older B&M "non coasting" siren that I had lent them to break in my bearings for me. It worked out for both of us..
The CFD had an item that I had to have.. So, I traded them this Sterling siren for that "particular" item. It was a win win situation! That's why the B&M siren came off. Now they have their own electro-mechanical siren.
And their Super Chief is still on their Engine still as per the latest video.

i wish we had trucks like that in my town..the newest we have are custom rosenbaur pumpers, I have a vid of one (we have 2), but the most we have in them is a whelen 295 series siren..

The 295's are cool. Whelen does have them with "mech" tone too!! Be selective when you purchase them!! Carson sirens also has "mech" tone too.
