@tyskbulle I am afraid sleeping outside doesn't make a general great, no matter how admirable that is. Results count, one can't blame "war luck". Gustavus Adolphus was brilliantly succesful - Charles's war ended in failure after a brilliant beginning.

@OtakuPraetorius Adolphus was indeed great, and the only swedish king called "great" but no doubt woud charles XII been called that aswell if his war luck hadnt turned on him during the war. Both kings are known for living the soldiers life in the field. But Charles took it one step further, even sleept outside under the bare sky whit his men. He also spent half of his life away from home defending his kingdom and thats admirble.

Its "Peter the Great" (1986), a TV mini-series. And its a real lousy one...
Charles XII is one of histories' greatest generals

@GentlemanGhost1 Agree! But not as great as Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden, who has been declared one of the greatest generals in history on several occasions.
