Things to Come (1936) tells the story of Everytown at the 1936 opening of a catastrophic world war. By 1970, after decades of conflict and the destruction of civil and political order, Everytown finds itself ruled by local warlords who battle each other for scarce resources. A group of scientists, in opposition to these war lords, secretly form a new society dedicated to global peace and technological progress.

  • That far-off year of 1970!

Poison gas had been an especially horrific part of World War I. When WWII happened, everyone in the world feared that their enemies would try it on them - which didn't occur.

Predicting WWII in this 1936 film was not so difficult to do, given the reality of what was happening then, but showing the FIRST scenes of a zombie plague was way ahead of its time!

  • Of all man's activities, war is the EASIEST thing to predict, because our public servants(government)are a bunch of ***holes, and more than willing to follow through on negative "predictions". Payback time's coming soon.

  • I imagine that the Occupy movement will turn something like Everytown in a few years.

  • The Boss Rules!!

This is not post apocalyptic, and it is not fiction. This is H.G Well's prediction of ww2 in 1940. I might remined you the film was aired in 1936. This is a very acurate prediction. And by my knowledge, ww2 was definately not fiction...

  • Even in the early 20th century, the imagination and thought of Post apocalyptic fiction was at work.

  • Before" Mad Max"

    Before "28 Days Later"

    Before "The Postman"

    Before "The Terminator"

Before "A Boy and His Dog"

    DECADES before--

    there was"Things to Come"

  • Great scene. Way ahead of its time.

  • Zombies on parade - more than thirty years before Night Of The Living Dead. :-O

    Things To Come, indeed.
