Transcript:
Yesterday, the House of Representatives passed a historic piece of legislation that will open the door to a clean energy economy and a better future for America.

For more than three decades, we have talked about our dependence on foreign oil. And for more than three decades, we have seen that dependence grow. We have seen our reliance on fossil fuels jeopardize our national security. We have seen it pollute the air we breathe and endanger our planet. And most of all, we have seen other countries realize a critical truth: the nation that leads in the creation of a clean energy economy will be the nation that leads the 21st century global economy.

Now is the time for the United States of America to realize this too. Now is the time for us to lead.

The energy bill that passed the House will finally create a set of incentives that will spark a clean energy transformation in our economy. It will spur the development of low carbon sources of energy everything from wind, solar, and geothermal power to safer nuclear energy and cleaner coal. It will spur new energy savings, like the efficient windows and other materials that reduce heating costs in the winter and cooling costs in the summer. And most importantly, it will make possible the creation of millions of new jobs.

Make no mistake: this is a jobs bill. Were already seeing why this is true in the clean energy investments were making through the Recovery Act. In California, 3000 people will be employed to build a new solar plant that will create 1000 permanent jobs. In Michigan, investment in wind turbines and wind technology is expected to create over 2,600 jobs. In Florida, three new solar projects are expected to employ 1400 people.

The list goes on and on, but the point is this: this legislation will finally make clean energy the profitable kind of energy. That will lead to the creation of new businesses and entire new industries. And that will lead to American jobs that pay well and cannot be outsourced. I ...

  • Can anyone provide me with irrefutable evidence that CO2 is a danger or a threat to the Earth's natural balance?

Two billion years ago, oxygen was the most deadly gas on earth.

To imagine we have made a difference in the living cycle or the Earth is Narcissism to the most extreme form. we are outnumbered by most other living organisms hundreds (even millions) of times over. look at the numbers and do some friggin' math folks!

  • Do the math? Add up the number of carbon spewing devices, not just people and it's real easy to figure out where the problem is. Please join the reality-based world.

  • I agree that we need a bridge to the energy sources of the future. We have the technology now to power cars on natural gas. Why are we not retooling Detroit to use this alternative cleaner burning energy source. Obama has the car companies there in his back pocket, so why not get it going immediately. I am fully on board with not funding the Saudis and people like Chavez. As for my intel, I get it from a great variety of sources. As to climate change, I doubt man has much impact on it.

  • Obama's done nothing, but claimed credit for everything. Kyoto is a joke and the US should not sign off on it. China and India have no intention of adhering to the edicts of this mandate to reduce CO2, which has not reduced the global temperature which has been getting cooler for the last decade. Global warming is a hoax and the joker in thief is willing to further kill the world's economy for the fringe lunatic left wing. We have enough energy in the US to sustain our economy. Drill Here!

  • Yea if we wanted to be a Non-Nation like the Netherlands we would join you in your liberal fake science crap. But Americans are not drones to the UN like you and most of the elite in the world. We have no time for the Earth worshipping agenda the "cool nations" have. We have our faith and it isn't in institutions of men.

  • by the way; 'leading'.... America will not be leading in renewable energies. They have a delay of at least two decades on the rest of the world in this aspect!!!

  • Let's remember the usa is almost the only country that did not sign the Kyoto protocol because they werent convinced of the damaging effect of CO2.

Finally things are done under Obama. He is a blessing to the world. He might even sign the kyoto protocol instead of creating an american carbon trade system.. the arrogance some people have in that country makes me obnoxious...

    Greetings from The Netherlands

  • Bush "Tax Tax Tax Tax Tax Tax Tax Tax Tax Tax Tax Tax Tax Tax Tax Tax Tax Tax Tax Tax Tax GIve it to my buddies and to the NWO" Obama "Tax Tax Tax Tax Tax Tax Tax Tax Tax Tax Tax Tax Tax Tax Tax Tax Tax Tax Tax Tax Tax GIve it to my buddies and to the NWO" Change we can believe in!
  • I think Youtube is afraid of the Obama Squad coming in.... they keep deleteing the TRUTH behind the LIES of Obama!

  • this is a JOBS bill. But not the creation of jobs. 1400 created jobs don't replace the hundreds of 1000's that are gonna be lost with cap and trade.
