  • I have learned more about playing this sonata in these 6 minutes than I have in the past twenty years! Great insights that make so much sense. Many thanks for downloading these masterclasses. Roland91 is quite correct. The three last Beethoven Sonatas are the ultimate statement of what the piano can 'say'. - and written by a man who to all intents and purposes was deaf.!!

  • @sharpfg Thank you, sharpfg! I hope you enjoyed these masterclasses. This is also one of my favourite sonatas, especially this movement.

  • which sonata is this???

  • @Rolland91 Sonata Op. 109. Last movement.

For me, the last three sonatas are one of the best productions for the piano. This is just my opinion, though.

  • This is definitely the best video I come across on YouTube. Thanks so much for sharing. It's almost touching to see a master so generously share with younger talents. Learnt so much as well, even though I am only on grade 6.

  • @lwpiano

    Thanks to you, lwpiano!

  • The land of the ultra-picky and the home of the perfectionist. It was interesting listening to all of this analysis, especially the remarks on syncopations and time. I honestly wonder if you took 3 maestro's opinions or even Beethoven's how much they would agree with each other though. I will say conductor's probably do know the most about how a piece should sound. I actually find it interesting to listen to different interpretations of a piece just for variation in taste and slant.

  • Some of these later sonatas are so compositionally revolutionary and divinely beautiful, and you don't hear people play them often

  • @natashkk ...absolutely agree.

  • Terrific! Unique and so touching......

  • @gitaclick hahaha

  • @Mattlzpf Yeah, that's a great quote. Especially since it can be applied to so many other works, and not just Beethoven.

  • How wonderful to see a talented young pianist interacting with a "guru". As well as being a great artist Barenboim shows throughout this series how he can connect at just the right level and in a non-threatening way to younger pianists of various levels and bring more out of their playing. Johnathon Biss is the most ready and receptive of the bunch and will take the best of all the advice he gets and distill them into his own artistry. I will watch for him.
