Lower baby molars frequently become fused to the bone in a process called ankylosis. An ankylosed baby tooth will not come out no matter how much a child wiggles it. If left in place the rest of the teeth and bone will continue to grow up around the ankylosed teeth leaving a bend in the bone and submerging the tooth. It's best to remove these teeth as soon as possible to avoid causing long-term damage to the jaw bone or surrounding teeth.
