John Crowley directs J M Synge's irreverent comic masterpiece starring Niamh Cusack (Cause Célèbre at The Old Vic), Ruth Negga (Hamlet and Phèdre at the National Theatre) and Robert Sheehan (E4's Misfits).

This savagely funny Irish classic was first produced in 1907 and was met with rioting and controversy when it premiered, sending shock waves across the dramatic world.

Set in a small village in the west coast of County Mayo, The Playboy of the Western World is a lyrical comedy which tells the story of lonely dreamer Christy Mahon who wanders into a pub, claiming that he has killed his father. Captivating the locals with his tale of bravery he becomes an instant hero but it turns out that there's an unexpected twist in his tale.

  • absolute amazing play, fabulously played by an amazing cast. I have to admit it was my 15 years old daughter who dragged me because of Sheehan...whom I was pleasantly surprised (as he has no academic training) Ruth is amazing, as is Cuzak and the rest of the cast. My daughter (plus a band oif teenage girls)was hugely dissapointed as she went to the theatre many nights and Sheehan never get out to sign programs. He should be grateful to the audience and realise without these girls: no work...

  • I really need to move to the UK:D

  • I NEED TO SEE MY MAN ROBERT IN THIS OMMMGGGGGGG

  • i'm digging that music in the background

  • OOMMMG

  • I'm so excited about this play, I may expire...
