I got together Mon. April 11, 2011 with some of the Regina Kiteboarders to go for a kite on water for the first time this year. After reading directions on a yahoo group post, I headed out towards Lumsden Sk. expecting a medium to large sized slough. Boy was I wrong! Instead I found this...
It is normally a 4-6' wide creek in the bottom of the Qu'Appelle Valley. It's now, as of the last week or so, a freaking lake about a mile wide and stretching as far as the eye can see. This year's spring run-off is beginning to swallow up the towns along the valley, which is extremely unfortunate given we had so much fun out there. The drenching rain of last summer, uncommonly large amounts of snow and the quick melt is affecting most of our province. Good luck to those who live in the affected areas and I sincerely hope the damage is minimal.
