As a demonstration video for my blog, I created this video which demonstrates the misc. functions of the tape loading mechanism of a Video2000 video tape recorder, model Philips VR-2022 and Metz 9910 (Identical to Philips VR-2020). It shows different drive functions like tape loading, playback, fast forward/rewind, stop, eject, ... always explained by a short German introduction.

  • My parents had a V2000 when I was young. It lacked a good A/V plug, like a Peritel / scart. But it was damn good and really solid.

  • video 2000 the best!!!!

  • I love how all heads and the capstan are built close together in this one, laced up symmetrically.

  • Just love the metallic clicking. Heavy metal built for eternity. They don't make 'em like they used to. Damn, I need a Video2000 too! Thanks for the vid!

  • The VR550 (every Philips VTR from 2002 on) was made by Funai. Hence the low price and low quality. Expect it to break down within 2 or 3 years. When you want to buy a VHS recorder nowadays, buy a used Philips turbodrive (1994-2002 model) and have it overhauled. It will outlast any new VTR.

  • I just bought this week a new Philips vr 550 for only 75 euro.

Good picture but poor sound quality, Many times (little) overmodulated. They have this problem for years.

I asked for some years ago at Media Market what's the best cheapest recorder? Deawoo! And Philips? -Bad sound quality. I know. I just gave back a Philips with bad sound to an other shop.

Earlier I had a Philips with to sharp picture > subtitles gone bad. And one with a bad tracking control.
