@TrustinJC How can David repent of his offences and still live in sin? He never divorced his multiple wives but continued a polygynous lifestyle until the very end of his life.the prophet only condemns David for taking someone else's wife, and then the prophet said to David God would have given David more wives had he wanted more if only David had not committed adultery with another man's wife.
@TrustinJC my point is, you seem to put a lot of emphasis on the four laws of antioch, but if the four laws are the say so on all morality, then murder and blasphemy can be done but obviously we don't believe that so then this list of four things must not be the exhaustive list of all commandments gentiles must obey.
@TrustinJC an argument from silence is not sufficient argument, but what is a good argument is an example of someone rejecting something.consider why none stress it:these letters were written to people who had problems that needed to be addressed.they didn't write about thigns they were convinced about.the problems they were combatting were not about whether the law of moses was of continuing validity, but they were interpretting the law to justify sin, so the writers sought to fix their errors.
@TrustinJC in the Shepherd of Hermas, it says adultery is committed not only by sexual immorality, but also by imitating the pagans:"Moreover, adultery is committed not only by those who pollute their flesh, but by those who imitate the heathen in their actions."wen i said they,i meant that the wife is 2 remain single.i believe that if the man rightfully divorced her,he mustnt b with her;they must be not b 2gether.but if the man wrongly divorced,he cant marry sum1 new bcuz he does't have the right.
@carlsonap16 Yes. Please provide the passages so I can read it in context.
My reason for asking the question is because we are suppose to emulate and copy our understanding of what is done in heaven to the best of our ability.
Jesus became the final blood sacrifice. After Christ's sacrifice animal sacrifices no longer have any value. It is now our whole being and entire life that God demands of us. We become the only acceptable sacrifice.
@carlsonap16 But Moses did allow it. Jesus made it clear that this is what was taught and accepted by the Pharisees. And Jesus did not say the Pharisees themselves were wrong on this point. Jesus pointed out the mistake was made long ago by Moses himself, as he gave into the hard hearts of men.
And I'll ask again in this comment. Name one apostle or NT writer who condoned or supported stoning.
@carlsonap16 Not true. The new testament writers continually condemn sin. And they define much of what they consider to be sin. While it is not found in the letter to Antioch, sin that we must run from is defined in other scripture. The Didache is one good example. Sexual sin is mentioned by many writers.
But none stress the importance of the laws that you say must be obeyed. Animal sacrifices and stoning adulterers are 2 example.
@carlsonap16 Solomon was condemned and the nation split because he took so many wifes. Prior to that the prophet Saul warned against taking many wives.
You are making excuses and refusing to accept the teachings of Christ and the Essenes when they are very plain and to the point. The Essenes even say the reason David had so many wives is because he did not have the law of Moses. But he was still considered right in the eyes of God because he repented of his offences.
@carlsonap16 Exactly. Must remain single and not remarry. Remarriage is adultery.
Now please explain how there are other meanings for adultery other than sexual sin. For the only time there is an explaination for this has to do with God condemning the nation of Israel for commiting adultery. But this has to do with Israel being his wife and she fornicating with other gods.
