Another experiment - this time, I took a jazz trio midi file that I had previously done, and annotated with text comments. Lots of students learn 'Autumn Leaves' as one of the first standards they play, so I thought that this might be a useful source of ideas. It is in the fake book key, and the chord symbols appear above the music.
This was imported into the Band in a Box program - this program will read these text 'markers', and it also has quite a flexible notation view. Note that in the notation view the bass and treble clefs don't accurately reflect the Left and Right hand parts. In addition, for those who can't easily sight read music, there is a very big and clear Piano view. I hope that some students might find this useful.
I have produced lots of other jazz midi files at http://www.bushgrafts.com/jazz/midi.htm
that can be treated in a similar way. A much better quality video is at http://www.bushgrafts.com/jazz/video.htm
along with along with a PDF file of the Transcription and a leadsheet and the midi file if you want to try to do this yourself!
If you have a fast connection and want to see this in high quality video to see the notes clearly(and the audio in stereo), add the letters &fmt=18 straight after the existing internet address line above.

  • The midi site is sadly down :c If you'd be so kind, would you send a link to your collection? I liked your work very much.

  • @Nicolai0Nerland My midi site is incorporated into my website - the address is above in the notes under the video

  • what scale would be used to play with this chord progression

  • @Rostro27 There are many options, but if it had to be played with just one scale, the Bb Major scale can be used. The basic chords are all diatonic to the key of the piece (2 flats - not 3 as shown on the notation!). It is in fact a good exercise to limit yourself to just those 7 notes as you improvise. Of course, as always, the main thing is the changing importance of each note as the chords pass. From 0:57 - 1:11 uses basically just the Bb scale (A naturals are shown as accidentals)

  • How could i get this piano sheet??

Somebody can send it to my email adress?

    thanks

  • Beautiful! Love this interpretation, I've gotten tired of the standard and more classical minor versions. Thank you!

  • Hi, what's your BIAB version and your sound module? Sounds great

  • Yep as stated in the description: the notes are just the raw version what the computer is capable of. Left and right hands are not indivcated correctly, nor are the articulations, dynamics and the swing-timing. As soon as I have the time I will try to do a little analyzing of this. To say the least: outstanding! It is so wonderfully flowing and melodic. No unnecessary self-indulging, just one great idea after another. You can hear the original as a counterpoint always underneath everything.
