perhaps you aren't educated in dance, and don't know what contemporary dance is really like. This is a form of improv in order to build the dancer's creativity and to allow the choreographer to see what the basic movement can really evolve to. Watch these dancers' other videos, they can also can be found through the username DsireDance. They are extrememly talented. I'm sure much more than your little cousin.
