"Blue in Green" is a famous Jazz piece by Miles Davis. Having played it over 50 times in the past year, every time I heard it I thought I might be able to make a rap beat. I took the first 8 bars (it's an uncommon 10-bar piece), and constructed all the chords, creating a piano line as well as a fitting bass and drum line. While it is based around Miles' song, this is entirely original and constructed by myself. I've inserted improvised Saxophone licks throughout, and an improvised solo at the end. The chorus included the head riff from the original song, as well as documentary clips from Miles Davis. Enjoy

Lyrics:
Blue in green going down, take the color palette out
Sketching frowns, check it out, don't return it, see it now,
it's a self portrait going down
But no Mona Lisa smile, just my mouth pounding out

On a big enough scale we all achieve the same,
The only Risk™ I ever tried was a board game
Always hearin' "life's short," I can't afford playing
Into petty words treating my life as if it's role playing

There's no time to be a bad person
When Judgement Day could come and leave your ass burnin'
I'm not right in my ways but I struggle
To shed light, and make hast to stay out of trouble

I'm no Saint, don't go the Boondock's way,
But the mistakes I've made find their place
Can't cut ties with the guy that made me realize
That this world's at high-tide barely surviving

I take my steps a little too soon
Got repurcussions building up in the back room
So tell me, when I'm getting my ass kicked for judging too quick,
how do I escape these consequences building up [shit]

So I'm dreamin'
Damn right, this melatonin got me sleepin'
Wake up in a state of amnesia
Prestige in dreams'll bring relief needed

Make no excuse, let loose,
Foil the news and the media who looked to leave you soiled and bruised
Society gathers at a ladder out of rungs
but I don't climb, already a star, on my way to the sun

I'm no stand-up comedian, I be jokin' from the seat I'm in,
Writing words down just to pass the time,
Lucky placement and I land a funky rhyme,
My crime, I'll face time with the lines I design

Look to my eyes you won't see pain
Just consternation as I adjust my ways
Call me an ass-hole I guess that's fine
But ever-lasting I'm a keep trying to get me right

Hear complaints from my classmates
Bitchin' and moanin' about the gas rates
Parents high-rollin' they get their tax breaks
I'm sick of it tone it down and be glad babies

I learned my lesson about depression it's a sad affai,
But for the shit to be spreading like a plague in the air,
Already got the tough times chalking thin lines,
Imagine how pathetic you look in kid's eyes

I'm not perfect, but I never pretend
Prolly score low on a one to ten
The whole world acts as if they wanna break a dollar, it's strange
All you gotta do is force the change
