Capitalism has many strengths but it doesn't have some sort of magical power to quarantine the fallout from the collapse of an industry from the rest of the economy. The economy doesn't work in a vacuum nor does capitalism. Take a look at the oil industry for instance. When gas prices go up, it strains the whole economy and prices for other goods also increase. Consequently, a strain on the credit industry screws nearly all of us because financing is used so heavily in our economy.

If capitalism were allowed to function, we would have allowed those who failed to fail. Government rewarded those who took excessive risks and participated in fraudulent behavior. What we have is not capitalism. Capitalism encourages the failure of those that government saved. This is NOT capitalism. Government must stay out of the economy just like it stays out of religion. That is our only hope.
