This video shows some of FHP Ltd's cable laying hire equipment being used to thread a 250m length of power cable through a J-tube on the seabed. This power cable will later connect a tidal turbine generator to the power grid.

In order to accomplish this job a spooler with an auto render function, powered by a small hydraulic power unit (HPU), was used in conjunction with a 6 pair linear cable engine (LCE), powered by a larger HPU. The 6 pair LCE has manual controls, plus auto render/constant tension function. A control panel mounted within a control shack has digital read outs indicating the cable distance, speed, and tension to the operator. Extra remote displays can be placed in the ship deck and bridge for any other personnel needing this information.
