Violence broke out in up to four neighbourhoods in the western Chinese city of Urumqi on Tuesday, according to witnesses.

A group of armed Han Chinese people were seen marching towards an ethnic minority Uighur neighbourhood. Uighurs and security forces were also out on the streets.

Al Jazeera's Melissa Chan reports on the third day of unrest in Xinjiang province, where authorities say 156 people have died so far.

  • @bizuyghur what happened AFTER the riot isn't the thing i'm trying to get across. What i'm trying to say is that the riot was started by Uyghurs and most victims hurt DIRECTLY by the riot were Han Chinese.

  • @guayx2 I was not there when the demo was happened but I have friends and relatives who were there when the Chinese police arrest demonstrators and opened fire when they ask the arrest to be released. So, please do not be part of Chinese CCTV propaganda if you have no other evidence than from the ones from your CCTV.

  • @bizuyghur dont just assume im a 50center, im just someone who doesn't like BS

  • @bizuyghur Yes that's exactly what I'm saying. I'm not certain that the dead were all Chinese, but I'm more sure than not. Here's another source that claims most victims were Han chinese.

The only official report is by CCTV, no one is SURE of what happened, certainly not you. It may be biased, but it's the best one we have.

  • @guayx2 Are you saying that al jazeera doing biased report just because they are Muslim? How you so sure 157 or 197 dead are Chinese? Didn't you say the CCTV is bias on this topic? So, how you get these numbers and information? Are you sure there are no Chinese 50 cent army like you on Wikipedia?

  • @bizuyghur this report was done by al jazeera, a muslim news network. It's just as biased as the Chinese cctv on this topic. According to wikipedia, the july 2009 urumqi riots began when thousands of uyghurs began protesting but escalated into violent attacks against han chinese, which resulted in 156 (or maybe 197) hans dead. AFTERWARDS, the police came in and did whatever it was that they had done. So NO, the attacks were NOT started by the Chinese police.

  • @guayx2 Uyghurs did not start the attack but the Chinese police who started the mess by shooting at the demonstrated Uyghur youth. Did you ask your master how many Uyghurs they killed?

  • @ThePaperattack don't spew out your filth in the name of Allah. You don't DESERVE to use Allah's name. You promote hate and violence, you are a not MUSLIM, you are TRASH!

  • this is so hypocrytical. The muslims started the attacks, 156 INNOCENT han chinese people were killed on the streets. The police came the next day and arrested a bunch of violent terrorists, and now they are whining?
