@fromthesidelines yea..at age 12, i remember this show very well and was saddened when it only lasted one season..the thing i remember the most is the show's theme, and every time Kenneth Mars came across that plank with the fire hose in hand..Jack Cassidy was a hoot, and it's nice to know that after nearly 40 years, Richard Benjamin and Paula Prentiss are still together..if anyone hears of this series being released on DVD, please keep me in the loop...
This had such promise- it was on CBS' Wednesday night schedule at 9:30pm(et), following "GREEN ACRES" in the 1967-'68 season, and won an Emmy. But General Foods, the show's sponsor, declined to renew it for another season. According to Harlan Ellison, CBS then had the option of renewing this...or taking a chance on a new version of "BLONDIE" (from the producers of "LEAVE IT TO BEAVER" and "THE MUNSTERS"), starring Will Hutchins & Patricia Harty, for the fall of 1968. THAT lasted 13 episodes.
Anyone notice it's the same set as the Mary Tyler Moore show?

Ah yes! I definitely remember this show. It came on right after Green Acres on Wednesday nights.
Very sadly, Jack Cassidy got killed in a fire just before Christmas of '76.
