I last skated "properly" (for about an hour every now and then, with my class, as a school activity) when I was about 12 years old. Many years later when I was 16-18, I attempted it outside on the stubbly ice for about ten minutes before I got sick of falling, haha!

But now it's time to learn FOR REAL! I went to a proper rink and everything. Watch me fail.
And towards the end two cool hockey dudes (they weren't really that cool) showed up and ruined the glorious emptiness the rink had going on. Hence the banging sound.

But look! Progress was made! From my first walking steps to the gliding towards the end. ("Look, ma! No hands!")

  • haaha i live in texas and there arent any good rinks ANYWHERE. then again its always 90+ degrees where i live. good for you though!! youre so adorable to watch, and im jealous youre swedish! im moving to the UK next year to finish my senior year so im hoping for better weather also... :D

  • @spartangirl04 Haha, ow, wow, I'm sorry you don't have any good rinks and that heat! But it's all good. In the UK they have plenty more! You can find one there. We have a building with a few rinks inside, and two of them are open for the public twice a week, for an hour, and if not we have cold winters and plenty of ice outside. Of course it's colder to skate outside, though, and the ice isn't as smooth.

  • ice skating is hard! last time I did it, maybe five or so years ago I fell every which way and I really hurt my rump. I used to think I preferred rollerblading, but then I rollerbladed while trick or treating for halloween last year but I ended up face flat on the ground in the pitch darkness trying to crawl my way up some person's steep driveway. hahaha almost got run over, the sweets were not worth it xD

  • @TelepathicPebble Hahah! You poor thing. Ouch. I've been on rollerblades a couple of times in my life. The only basically real time was in my teens, when my friend dragged me with her, and it was torture! I tried ice skating outside a couple of years ago and fell several times and eventually gave up. But the ice was quite uneven outside, of course. At the rink now, I was very careful, and I didn't fall once XD yay!

Did you get ANY candy out of that experience, though?

  • @Maccadole iceskating outside?! I could never imagine myself doing that haha. too scary, and cold. I got a good amount, say half a pillow case of candy mhhhhmmmm

  • @SazzyIsHere Haha, don't be scared! :D Perhaps you're not as terrible at it as I am. You should know, I have really poor balance, and I'm all crooked. Just hold on to the side at first, get a feel of how the blades function on the ice. Then you're good to go! I could skate around without holding on after just twenty minutes. This video shows it poorly, since it only caught dumb moments of my skating. It's not that tricky!

  • @EdEditz Yeah, of course, it's tricky to have ice when it's warm outside. I hope you get another hit of freezing weather, then ;)

Too bad that you don't have rinks, though. I feel lucky! We have them a little bit all over the place here. Not every city, I am sure. But many do. We have a big place with several halls. Haha! That's probably why I was alone. Middle of the week, people are at school or working, and if someone was there they were probably in the other hall. So I got the rink to myself

  • @Maccadole Yeah we have those icefields too but of course that's only open when it has been freezing outside for long enough. We only have icerinks in a few cities, those that put on major championships over the winter. The nearest one from my house is in Heereveen and they're talking about closing that one. There's not much call for icerinks here, which is perhaps strange because the dutch are know for their champion skaters but other ice-related sports like icehockey are not at all big here.

  • @EdEditz Oh, wow. That's too bad! I'm lucky, then. I get in the car for ten to fifteen minutes and I'm there. And we have iced soccer fields in the area I live, too. Not as smooth ice, though. And cold, since it's outside.

  • @Maccadole No nowhere near here. I'd have to travel 100 km.
