Football star Tom Zbikowski is ditching his helmet and pads for boxing gloves, albeit temporarily. The 25-year-old, who plays safety in the NFL for the Baltimore Ravens, will fight for the second time as a pro March 12th on the "Relentless" undercard featuring Puerto Rican veteran Miguel Cotto's defense of his super welterweight crown against the fiery Nicaraguan Ricardo Mayorga.

  • trainer hits harder than tommy Z

  • Ray will be good, it'll take time but He's been training for years

  • @ballsaq

Yea, i remember him being a boxer before the NFL... 75-15 amateur record i believe.

I know what you mean though, Ray Edwards thinks he can go onto the boxing scene and dominate the heavyweight division. I'm just saying, i forgot which fight it was, but he weighed in 195 for his second or third heavyweight fight.

  • @go8888od You gotta understand Zbikowski didn't just turn to his agent during the lockout and say "I think I wanna box". He has an extensive amateur background in boxing and has already proven himself worthy of fighting in the pros. It's just irritating to hear professional football players figuring they can transfer their skill set to another sport in such a short amount of time. Even athletic phenomenons like Jordan tried and failed.

  • I think Tommy Z and Emmanuel Stuard will work out well. He has all the fundamentals in boxing to become a top contender. Plus Top Rank has a very marketable guy in Tommy Z. With the nfl fans knowing Ziggy is now professionally boxing, they all want to see this guy in the ring. This will be good for boxing.

  • Damn... guy's too small for Heavyweight... why not Cruiserweight?

I mean, I admire that he's taking on bigger guys, but wait until he gets to more experienced guys. He got Steward on his side now, maybe this can be something... plus heard Ray Edward wants to do this too

  • gotta love zibby! Beast.

  • go irish!

  • Its pretty cool to see a football player training for a pro boxing fight.

  • Best of luck, Tommy!!
