In 2008, the US banned the import of illegally logged woods, but enforcement of this law remains questionable. The Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) is the only 3rd party, independent certifier of sustainable logging practices, but the documentation inevitably costs more than for uncertified wood products. This does not have to be the case and the RGB Committee wants to help out. Our committee of residential green building experts has asked key wood suppliers and forestry practice gurus to join us for a panel discussion to trouble-shoot this issue. We want to know how designers and contractors can specify and purchase sustainable woods cost effectively and how we can give more value to this precious natural resource.
