Shows an American Electric Power crew making repairs after a powerline pole caught on fire.

People always told me to leave my computer on when I left the house. They said some people leave their computers on and never turn them off. Electricity is safe and dependable these days.

So I left the house with my computer on. When I returned around half an hour later, the road was closed, fire trucks, Internet companies, ambulances, and all sorts of emergency vehicles were there. People were shouting at me. The police were there.

It turned out that for unexplained reasons, the center of the power line pole had caught on fire. The top of the line was hanging right over the road by its power line cables. The transformer was fine-it had not caught fire.

The fire wouldn't go out. They cut the burning parts off, but they continued to burn. The next day, I went down to look at the wood that they left and it was still burning.

It is unknown what caused the fire. No electrical storm had gone on, while I was gone. The center of the pole simply caught fire.

I didn't get pictures at first of all the emergency vehicles, but later did take a video of the repair work.

  • Interesting video, but description is too long and contains too much speculation foisted as fact. Just because something is "mysterious" and "unexplained" to YOU doesn't mean it has no cause, or that the cause isn't known to others. The wood caught fire because it got hot. Lightning, electrical malfunction, fireworks, or vandalism are all possibilities; since you weren't there, you don't know. And yes, burning wood smolders for days; that's normal and not "mysterious". Grade: C. Stars: 3.

  • @lonewolfintj What we thought was odd, was that just the center of the pole caught fire. We thought it should catch fire near the end, where the electrical surge began.

  • Wrong choice of background music and it's jittery you should have your tripod with you to catch your husband heroism but at least information is usable.....

  • There were lines down and I had been chased out of the yard.

  • why is this under the category 'pets and animals'?

  • Mistake, thanks for telling me.

  • If i would live in the USA , or somewhere , where much power poles want to be repaired. I would like to do the job :>> I like Power poles very much , and more like the USA style 7,2kV Transformers, they look a little bit like trash cans :>>>>>

  • Why are there so many damn dislikes? Geez.... LOL

  • I'd much preferred to hear the natural sounds of the event than music- especially music that doesn't fit the situation at all. It's so distracting I just turned it off.

  • @IrenaScott You are aware that there is usually a ground that runs down the whole legnth of the side of the pole if it has a transformer on it, it catching on fire in the middle can happen, even at the base.

  • I clicked on your ad even though I was completely confused by your video.

  • vai filmar ruim assim na puta que pariu!

  • ...wood poles are pressure-treated w/creosote at the mill for power-pole use. As the pole ages, moisture can channel through the pole. A short within a failed insulator will find a path to ground through the pole- thus, resulting in the smoldering fire. There will remain more creosote towards the poles' center- as opposed to the exterior- and could therefore remain smoldering for days after being cut down...

  • @lonewolfintj Just shut up and watch the video.

  • No mystery. Squirrel in hollow pole was smoking in bed....

  • a short in a ground will do that.
