Audio review of the Boss FRV-1 pedal, the 'digital version of the Fender 63 Reverb Unit'. This review is especially aimed at 'Surf Guitar Enthusiasts', so I tried to demonstrate the posssible "drip" you can get out of this pedal. (A lot depends on pu selection, string gauge, and of of course the amp used, so this is just one impression of what this box is capable of). For comparison purposes I included a short sequence played with a 'Fender 63 Reverb Unit RI'.

  • nice and wet......... I use a Boss RV-5, which I am extremely happy with!

  • nice demo! i have a fender reverb tank reissue...seems very close...but the drop sound is much deeper with the tube reverb...i think is a cheap choice if you can't afford an original one....i personally prefer the Danelectro Spring King as a cheap real spring reverb---

  • I used to have the Fender Hot Rod DeVille 410 with real Fender spring reverb and it didn't do that obnoxious rattle, clang, pop noise. I want a nice reverb stompbox that only does one sound as opposed to 10 modes or whatever but does this clank and pop all the time cus my DeVille's spring reverb was great and didn't clank like that.

  • Thanks for this - the first useful demo of the pedal for surf I've found!

    Brilliant!

  • fuck good

  • hi very close! actually the sound of the REAL 63 reverb tank can also be achieved with FRV1 by going beyond 1-1-11.... the demo was great bec you it features same settings of the knobs :) but again the sound of the REAL 63 reverb here can be emulated by the FRV1 on a different knob settings... thanks

  • Thanks for this!

  • Thanks so much for the Surf-oriented demo. I have one on the way and I think it'll do a great job for my purposes.

  • tahnks for the great demo! this is the best I've heard s far. Especially because you compare it with the real thing. The Fender Tube Reverb sounds better, but this is only noticeable in a direct shoot-out, so the Boss Pedal is close enough for me...

  • sounds great good demo...
