@BrunsAce Actually, that's not true. Trees splitting have nothing to do with their sap. Anything made of wood can split, explode, splinter or burn. Telephone poles, fences, whatever. Sap is not a factor.

@BrunsAce there was a bolt of lightning that struck my neighbors tree, and they said that it heated the sap so much that it blew up and giant splinters just obliterated the front of their house

Don't know where you're seeing that it is light out when the lightning hits, but as far as the tree splitting..you got half of your answer already. The heat from the lightning instantly boils the tree sap causing it to expand and split the tree.
