Roland D-50 Enya

In this short video, I am demonstrating one of my favorite D-50 patches: Atmosphere, with the Lower Tone (the pluck sound) turned off. Then there Enya's Sail Away, and then the ubiquitous D-50 calliope patch.

@TrainmasterCurt Yeah, I got one of those. I use to have three, but I broke one when I attempted to replace the LCD light, and I sold the other one. So, I have only one left now.

Is it possible to emulate this sounds on a DX7?

@HambertHM Theoretically a lot of things are possible on the DX7; however, practically, the DX7 doesn't have pizzicato string samples, and it is very difficult to emulate acoustic sounds on the DX7, aside from bells, vibraphones, and other types of tuned percussion instrument, to which FM synthesis naturally lends itself.

I'm wondering have you tried the D-50 in the V-Synth XT? I want to get a D-50 but the one in the newer V-Synth XT with all the cards installed, instead of the original 80s keyboard.

@haikousei I haven't tried the V-Synth XT, becuase it's a cool $3,000. The D-50 card in the V-Synth must be much much better than the original as far as the sound quality goes. The originaly D-50 is hissy, and sometimes the keys don't trigger the sound accurately. Still, the D-50 over playability, keyboard feel, and looks make me long for one. For each is own. But I am sure that the V-Synth's D-50 card must sound way cleaner. I think one guy demostrates tha D-50 card on YouTube.

Ah! I can use this video to learn how to play Orinoco Flow's Pizzagogo part on my keyboard that spazzes when you hit too many keys at once!

D50 is a beautiful instrument. Swapped mine for Korg Z1, and while the Z1 is also a fine instrument, I miss the breathy beauty of the D50.

The Enya song is called "Orinoco Flow", not "Sail Away".
