I see your point. My other concern is why the heck would the province of Ontario politically interfering with the TTCs purchases just for their own interests.
Frames rusted out. They were not designed for the Canadian winters. The bigger problem is that TTC had interest in acquiring the GM Artics, but the province (who had an interest in OBI - Ontario Bus Industries, later Orion Bus Industries) persuaded the TTC to buy the Orion III by offering a signficant cash incentive (which they would withhold had they bought the GM's). End result, inferior articulated buses that didn't last anywhere close to as long as the GM's ... just look at Hamilton's!
Also articulated buses serve a good purpose for bus routes that get crowded fast
