Rest In Peace Oscar (August 15, 1925 -- December 23, 2007) . . . you will be cherished and remembered for the wonderful gifts you gave to music.

--

This video contains parts of the CBC's Life & Times documentary of Oscar Peterson when he performed to a sold out crowd at the Stratford Festival Theatre in Stratford, Ontario in October of 2002.

As the concert production company, we were honoured to play a small part in the making of the documentary.

  • what is the name of the song starting at 7:00 ?

  • When Summer Comes

  • Oscar was an incredible person. What is the name of the piece he is playing at 6:50? It is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard.

  • The piece is entitled "When Summer Comes" and I would have to agree that it is one of the most beautiful things you will hear. It was the first song that I played when I heard of his passing . . .

  • What an absolute genius he was. The passion that he gave to all his recordings/

concerts was outstanding. I watched the video and was moved to tears.

  • it's great to see people from all over the entire globe to come here and appreciate the unspeakable greatness of oscar peterson. such unanimous respect is rarely seen in the youtube comments section - but it's hard to find a single thing that isn't short of the best of the best in oscar. rip, oscar, you have changed the world :-)

  • I'm glad we have You Tube. I'm 73, and just think, 10 years ago you could not have seen and listened to all this great stuff so easily. Wow. Thanks!

  • Oscar had a first rate mind. That gave him more windows to open.

  • Hi. Can you post the rest of the documentary?? I'm specifically looking for the part when he reminisces about his American debut at Carnegie Hali.

  • @gr00veN1k1 if by reporter, you mean the narrator he is canadian also - it is actor Christopher Plummer

  • Oscar Peterson was #1 pianist in the Jazz history (4 me)

  • Oscar has been my musical hero since 1962. I saw him for the first time on the Steve Allen Late Show and was truly amazed how one piano player could sound like two piano players. Somehow, his playing and arrangements of songs did improve [at least to my ears] and today I still listen to this master on a daily basis. God Bless you Oscar. I hope to meet you one day.

  • @gr00veN1k1 - He's not a reporter - that's Christopher Plummer - the legendary actor and friend of OP's. :) Just so you would know.

  • he's a legend!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm so faszinated in his playing and his personality

    He was so great!!!!!!!
