Easily the most legendary match in the Evert archive, the 1985 French Open was never shown in its complete form on the national television sets of its combatants. Scheduling conflicts caused a taped version to be edited down to the first 2 games of the match followed by the final set. Now here, in 2 parts, are the highlights from the COMPLETE match, unifying the American and BBC broadcasts. Part 1 covers the first 2 sets. The 2nd part will be uploaded later tonight. footage courtesy chrisevert.net

  • @Carlski79 You know it is really sad, when people such as yourself post comments that are not only untrue, and completely misconstrude things that have some factual references. First off that comment about John Llyod was made in 1990 in a sport illustrated article.. when Chris was talking about her career in retrospect. It did happen in78. Secondly Chris never made any excuse for any loss when she was playing on tour, she was always classy. You are an idiot to have posted such a comment !

  • The immature retorts are one thing, but appalling language!!; that has been used on this page by Carlski79 should be removed. I hope that who ever oversees these postings won't tolerate it.

  • So unfair that this women's final was not shown in its entirety. That's just really wrong.

  • Great job Chris. Both you and Martina were great champions. One who wore her emotions on her sleeves and the other who kept it inside. I am glad to see that both of you tied at 18 single grand slams. Although Chris could have won more French Opens had she played them early on. Thanks for posting this and bringing back memories.

  • Good old dan maskell with his old school commentary ''well played indeed'', now we're stuck with andrew ''gmtv reject'' castle

  • @RaleighNC306 Like What ?!??

  • In fact while this was a more dramatic match, than the '86 final, it was also a bit more error prone. It was windier and both women got tentative when ahead. The final two sets of next years final showed the pinnacle of Evert's clay game. LOL the first set was disastrous for Evert fans. IMHO, that match puts to bed any question of who was the best on red clay when both brought their best games. Evert simply soared in the final games of those last two sets.

  • when martina went blond and started wearing glasses......was it to hide her head that was getting large......one of her friends is gonna spill what nancy really taught her.........

  • @RaleighNC306 You are so right, you can totally see Martina trying to aggrivate Chris, by appaulding herself and making a big deal out of shots that aren't really anything special, didn't work .... this day !

  • It's nice to see my favorite player, Chris Evert, look so good and play so well. She should have won more easily, but you've got to hand it to Martina who played a great second set to stretch it to three in a losing effort. Chris is, hands down, the best player of either gender to ever play on the red stuff. Thanks for the clip.
