Here's a clip of me playing a 6 / 8 groove I came up with recently. It was inspired by Omar Hakim and Carter Beauford.

Omar is great at making 6 /8 sound so "odd" sometimes for an even time signature. I also love the way Carter Beauford plays so busily but his tasteful use of dynamics and grace notes make it work for the music.

I thought I would add an audio clip of my band - New Groove Formation playing our song "Love Is Funky" over the end credits. Check my band out at http://www.newgrooveformation.com

Please excuse the video quality. High quality videos coming soon...

The kit I'm playing has sadly seen better days. Its the practice/teaching kit at work and its in dire need of some new skins. The toms are particularly bad at the moment. But hey, a bad workman blames his tools.

  • I use both plus my own technique that I call Jumping Technique. I use heel toe when I want to conserve energy, slide for speed and my technique to push the speed even further. "Different tools for different jobs" as my teacher would say.

There's a more recent video of my Jumping technique on my channel. I'm also planning to do a tutorial on my pedal technique as soon as I get my new camera.

    Thanks for watching mate.

  • wow. that sounds nice. for your double bass on single, do you use heel toe or slide technique?
