Fishermen are clever and for years, the criminal act of dumping trash- everything from washers and dryers to refrigerators to concrete blocks- have been dumped into the ocean and bays recreating natural lobster habitat. These man-made mini-cities are potentially disastrous to the marine environment... especially the coral reef ecosystems. Part 1

  • So sinking ships, boats(for artificial reefs),and lost lobster traps that keep killing is ok.But stacking some cocrete blocks up to atract lobsters isn't?That makes sence.

  • you must be kidding me !!!!!! catch 'em up !!!! there are plenty !!!!! you must be a commercial fishing advocate. if you know where to look there are PLENTY !!! if they dont live on a man made "reef", they will crowd on to a natural ledge. either way they are targets...commercial or pleasure diver........get a life !!!

  • @Southernborn761 PLEASE DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME. This is NOT a how to POST. I dont even know if it is a crime to make and deploy these shelter's. Just a little youtube disclaimer! WOW!!!!!!! bisonhawk1 has a video of what i just explained right over on the right side of this screen. Depending on what was in the steel drum. it may explode. Well a kid was making his mom a grill for mother's day. he was cutting it and it exploded on him. DONT DO IT!!!!!!

  • I heard a guy talking about building some structor for lobster. I was amazed at his thinking. It was not a trap they can come and go as they please. But it did offer lobster safe haven. a good place to live. It was simple. 6 inch PVC pipe stacked like a pyramid. 6 rows on the bottom. 5 rows above. & so on. it was a trangle 8 feet long. they walked right into his bag. or cut the bottom out a 50 gallon drum. smash down the end. 6 inch. holes in the uncut end for waterflow.ring the dinnerbell PEACE

  • How can adding more habitat be bad for the lobsters? seems like it would spread them out and make for more Habitat, which seems like it just might increase the population? Hmm?

  • there are condos everywhere and whats the difference if you know where to Exactly find them on a reef or on a condo get a life. to everyone else have fun catching em up on "condos" who cares about commercial catch either they are going catch em or novice divers are but taking away condos its not going to protect the lobster at all lol

  • bullshit vid

  • So this is really a squable between trap setters and divers over the resource.

    This is a propaganda clip.

  • its better than comercial traps!

  • It appears what these folks are primarly annoyed about is that the divers are now bagging more lobsters then the trappers... The trappers on boats are portrayed as "Using Modern methods and equipment" while we are told those of the divers "Have not changed over the years"... They did a poor job of concealing their attempt at propaganda.... It was a hit piece and a bad one at that..

  • @muddyriverdogz It's illegal to sink a ship. The county sinks retired ships in deep water for an artificial reef for fish and divers. An uncorded lobster trap is also illegal if not registered or if no rope is cut. If the buoy gets hit, cutting the rope, the trap is marked and would be returned to its owner once found, or broken by a friendly diver saving lobsters/fish.
