Rena Gely was born in Moscow in 1977.
After finishing the special musical school in Baku with best notes she has entered the composition faculty of Baku Music Academy (class of prof. Ismail Gadjibekov), where she has received her master diploma (with excellence) in 2002.

Rena Gely is writing music for orchestras, ensembles, solo and vocal music. She is also making her first steps in film music („Wieder ein Tag" of Kerstin Polte) and pop music.

Since 2004, after receiving the Swiss Governmental Scholarship she has entered the Zurich School of Music (class of prof. Isabel Mundry)

She has received many scholarships for attending masterclasses for composition with

Chaya Czernowin, Steven Takasugi, Helmut Lachenmann, Beat Furrer, George Aperghis, Dieter Mack, Louis Andriessen, Martijn Padding, Richard Ayres, Richard Barrett and Klaus Huber ;

and has gained musical experience with different ensembles, like „D'ereprijs" (Holland); „Sur Plus", „Atelier für Neue Musik" (Germany); „Ö!", „Musikkollegium Winterthur" (Switzerland); „Sonor", „Contempo" (Azerbaijan).

Her music was played in different festivals in and outside of Azerbaijan.




Mouse's Tale from "Alice in Wonderland" (2003)

(for voice, clarinet, piano, cello and percussion)


This is one of the funny stories by Lewis Carroll from his famous book "Alice in Wonderland". It is a story about a poor little mouse and a cat which is trying to eat the mouse; a story of two characters , which I tried to tell through my music.

It's a play between instruments, timbres, melodically and rhythmically different structures.

Sometimes imitating, sometimes following them, sometimes laughing at them, but always loving both of them, I'm creating their small world where each of them tries to become a winner...
