Artbotics: Attracting Students to STEM

STREAM is a workshop to help K-12 educators utilize robotics as they teach STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) subjects. This workshop provides educators with the opportunity to explore how they might use robotics in their own STEM instruction through interactive sessions as well as through presentations by other educators currently using robotics as a way to teach STEM. STREAM 2010 was held at iRobot in Bedford, MA.

Artbotics held an interactive workshop session on the second day of STREAM 2010, "Artbotics: Attracting Students to STEM." After introductions, basic programming lessons, and a short drawing project with the Cricket cars, participants were given their project: to create a piece of kinetic sculpture. Some utilized the Cricket cars to create moving, autonomous characters. Others created two or three-dimensional narratives that relied on the viewer's interaction.
