I love doing crossword puzzles. Recently, I did the USA Today puzzle, and one of the clues was "communicates nonverbally?". At first I took it as kind of a cute thing, but the more I thought about it, the more I began to think that this is part of why signed languages are devalued in comparison to spoken languages. In this vlog, I discuss the meaning of the word "nonverbal", and why it should NOT be applied to signed languages.

  • I am taking a communications class in college and was brought to YouTube in search for a video about non-verbal communication. And I agree with you completely. ASL is a language, granted it is not spoken but it still is a a language when you use language, or words, you are not communicating non-verbally.

  • You and I sign our hands with no verbal so it s still telling you that we do not use our deaf voices in our hands. Let me know. what do you think???
