Dr. Frank Chase Jr discusses some historical facts about tithing that is essential to understand how the money tithe was instituted out of context with the scripture. In between each segment, you will be given enlightening information to start you on the way to understand how to give correctly. Most tithing doctrines have been based on Oral law and Rabbinical commands. However, history records Jewish sources that tithing has been nothing more than a voluntary custom until it was forced by church decrees and other pronouncements. And even if it has been based Rabbinical or Oral commands, Tithing money is not a TORAH command at all. Jewish and Rabbinical sources acknowledge that Ma'aser Kesafim (Money Tithing) is not in the Bible at all nor was it commanded by God. No where in the Bible Does God ask for Ma'aser Kesafim as a tithe. Give from your heart not from a oral command not supported in the bible.

The catholic Church knows their history and here is how tithing was re-introduced after being non-exsistent for centuries, "As the Church expanded and various institutions arose, it became necessary to make laws [outside of the bible] which would insure the proper and permanent support of clergy. The payment of tithes was adopted from the Old Law... The earliest positive legislation on the subject seems to be contained in the letter of the bishops assembled at Tours in 567 and the [canons] of the Council of Macon in 585"

There was no tithing in the assemblies of the believers that the Apostles preached to. Tithing money was not a divine law transferred to the New Covenant churches to Modern day Gentile Levites. There are no gentile levites.

In support of your statement, can you give even one example of anyone in the early church given paid employment, let alone from "the tithe"? Can you give even one example of where Jesus, or his disciples, or the new testament writers, or the early church either received a tithe, paid a tithe, or instructed anyone to pay a tithe?

Why would there be anyone in the church not working in the church? Are not ALL called to service? (1 Corinthians 12:4-31). Who pays who, and with what?

  • I found something very powerful in scripture that confirms deuteronomy 14:22-26. God required that 10% of the tithe goes to the levites and thepriest and it specified that it was those that did service in the temple. SO EVERY CHURCH SHOULD BE PAYING ANYONE WHO WORKS IN THE CHURCH they should not ask people to volunteer first. the tithe is suppose to employ people in the church (Numbers 18:20-31)
