The MOD dont list "operational costs" in this figure, this states another £18Billion was allocated, for "operational costs" (wars) The figures are also in pounds not euros or dollars, aid is not included, other countries do have bases overseas you know.....

Also if we spent as you claim £43 billion this is in GBP its the same as $60 Billion

So how can you claim we are ninth, do you know where all other nations spend there money?

@franknbeans4761 Saying which system is better and so on is still unporoven. For example the USA thought they had the best kit in GW1 until our little HMS Gloucester with our sea dart saved the Missouri.....Which was proablly the last time you saw a ship using its 16" guns, but again relic it was really used to launch tomahawks, these BIG ships are more trouble than they are worth.

@franknbeans4761 But the USA is in NATO....LOL i would not listen the USA release dates for anything, the F22 and F35 have been plauged by problems. But the 45 can enable Tomahawk, but I guess the Navy are leaving that to the Astute and the 45 to air defence. BMD or anti-ballistic missiles defence it primary role is not Anti Air.

@franknbeans4761 dnt make me laugh? type 45 is made to shot dwn planes and missles to protect carriers, it can carry tomahawk missles so it can strike land targets which it is not built to do in first place it can track 1000 targets and engage 46 at once, kirov cant even do 1/6th of that so come back when you build new ship.

@MrCastodian who independently grades warships? are you a moron? your trying to compare a rusty heap shit, to an advanced destroyer, the princples the type45 was built on came from falklands war, you couldnt even afford to decommission the kirov, and the british are only people to sink a ship using a submarine in modern warfare, so you know nothing and talking about a terrible boat that cant even leave anchor you are a moron.

@DoctorEnzo It is very capable but not fully the best. The RIM-174 outclasses the Aster series of missiles in many ways, and the Evolved Sea Sparrow allows for great close in defense up to 50 km out.

And the Type 45's ability to strike land targets seriously limits it's capabilities, even with carriers.

But as for it being the best air to air ship, it probably isn't. Especially with more AEGIS BMD ships coming online (24 now, 38 in 2015).

But I think the Type 45 is best in NATO task forces.

@stewsterni The Type 45 is good but only to an extent. I would much rather have an Arleigh Burke Class destroyer that not only has more VLS but also carries land attack missiles. And with the RIM-174 and Evolved Sea Sparrow, the Arleigh Burke DDG could possibly have better anti-aircraft and anti-cruise missile abilities. Let alone the AEGIS BMD models with RIM-161's.

But in terms of overall abilities, the single Kirov Class Battlecruiser is one of the best.
