My Opinions: This is one hell of a knife. For those people in the market for a tanto blade, before you go buy one, check out one of these babies and compare it to what you where thinking of buying. Specifically compare it to the Cold Steel Recon Tanto:
The Recon Tanto does come in a little larger, with a 7 inch blade, but of course, you could always look at one of the larger Entrek knives. But that is about where the advantages stop, depending on if you find that an advantage in your field of use. The Recon Tanto is made from AUS 8 (440B) where as the Survivor is made from 440C. Handle material on the Recon Tanto is Kraton, on the Survivor it is Canvas Micarta (thats plus two to the Survivor for those keeping score). How about the jimping on the knife? The Recon Tanto is touted by Cold Steel as rapidly redefining the standard for combat knives around the globe. It is well on its way to becoming the preferred fixed blade for SWAT teams and special military units (can someone please open the door and let the hot air out?). Well, for being touted as a combat knife, there is no jimping on the blade at all, something that you might need in a combat situation, where as the jimping on the Survivor is deeply grooved and latches onto your thumb and will not let it slide one millimeter. How about where it is made? If you are concerned, the Recon Tanto is made in Japan, not a bad place, and the Survivor is made here in the USA by hand, rather than by machine.
So, if a better steel, and handle material are important for you, for only about $20 more, then go with the Entrek USA Survivor
Advantages:
+Great jimping, likely the best I have seen or held.
+Good proven stainless steel
+Good look to the canvas Micarta
+Modified Tanto is awesome for making sharpening easier, and getting more workability from point, without sacrificing point strength
+Fit and finish GREAT
+Good decent price for quality of knife
+Made in USA
+Hollow ground and razor sharp
+Bead Blasted finish very durable
+Feels great in hand with no hard spots for blistering
+Large choil to make sharpening faster and easier
+Full Tang
+Easily removed scales on handle
+Full lifetime warrenty
Disadvantages:
-Belt Clip a little to low on tension, not removable
-Retention in sheath could be better, although not bad
-Sheath noisy
-No drainage hole
