the conqs were only ever intended as a stopgap to counter russian heavy tanks until the cent was upgunned and in hind sight should have been diesel engined,as for driving i prefer the conq, controls are much lighter than cent.as for being blown over no main battle tank will ever survive a side on hit from another mbt not even modern chally 2 can, they are designed to withstand frontal attacks, every mbt that has come to service has always been a compormise in terms of armour verses mobility
Good job Conquerers were not needed during the war! They were a waste of taxpayers money! A broadside shot on a really high charge would almost throw them on their back! Plus the fact they were too heavy to cross most bridges layed by Cent Bridgelayers! The new fangled petrol injection system caused all sorts of reliability issues. I have driven Persuader many times and it is a very physical vehicle to drive. I would not want to go to war in her ever!
modern unleaded fuel is the problem,if left unused for any lenght of time it grows mold in the filters as we found out,and no i wasn,t at duxford or shoeburyness always bordon reme museum
@landyandy7 Well that was just poor maintenance lol! Are you the Andy that was at Duxford 12 or so years ago and worked at Shoeburyness earlier?? Mmm!
hopefully she will be running next year again as just fitted modern fuel injection unt and megasquirt ignition system, working on performance perameters noe so fingers crossed she will be out in the spring again
I was right then? I'm really looking forward to see one of these go as ours are far from it, also out of all the tanks we have this is my favorite. Nice to here that the persuader is going again, good work.
@barnesrs2000 I was a fitter in the Tank Workshop at Shoebury and got Persuader running again after sitting in the tank park for a year or so. The Meteor engine on Corn-Curers is fuel injection unlike the old Cent. like a modern car it relies on submersible pumps in the fuel tanks which are so unreliable and you have to hit them with a hammer to get them to tick if you are lucky! Also you cannot get new ones any more so you try to fix the old units with wot u have in the S/H bits box
