Used a one second burst of starting fluid ( ether ) into the air intake and this time it started and continued to run.

  • Hi there,

Very nice Listeroid, looks and sounds great!

But I would like to just warn you about starting fluid. If you use more than what you did in a diesel it will need it to start every time. This is due to it increasing the compression and it actualy bends the connecting rod very very slightly. It will also destroy your rings so be carefull.

    Otherwise, great running engine.

    All the best,

    Phill.

  • Phill,

Thanks! I have it hooked up better now, see my more recent videos. I don't need starting fluid to get it going, I was pretty paranoid and used the minimum possible fluid to start it, seemed like whenever I moved it then it was hard to start, oil got somewhere it shouldn't be? Starts fine on it's own now though. See the hoses there to flood the water jacket? I had the pressure up to high and blew the seals out on the water pump ( didn't find that out until the bearing seized ).

  • Thanks,

Glad you were carefull with the fluid, these are great engines. Have the bearings been repaired now, water pump falier is a horrid thing to happen.

Good luck with the engine : )

  • I replaced the bearing but I guess the seals are still bad since it leaks after it runs for around 6 hours. I'm going to get an electric pump like a taco or grundflos.
