I am not a LUDITE, I first worked on the formation of net protocols and AI over 20 years ago. Learning is what happens when the state of information in the mind changes - whether by sensory input or personal mental activity. Learning is not caused - it happens spontaneously; despite the propaganda that Schools of education propagate. The digital push is a part of the current very expensive decor..

A blackboard, chalk and erasers (even overhead projectors) create more personal fidelity and cost a lot less than "Smartboards", computers, wi-fi hubs (etc). We are making the students dependent on ELECTRICAL devices that require sources of energy beyond what they can produce or store for themselves.

Technology is more than tools - it's the working environment that teh world economy has become completely dependent upon.. But are educators responsible for creating workers for the economy or knowledgeable, competent individuals who can choose their own tools and methods and not be forced into the E-World because Districts/Schools are over-awed by tech?

@msrtoday Are you a bot looking for key terms and making the same post? How many more times are you going to put down the Luddite argument? Technology is more than just computers, but I will not argue that. Instead, consider where you are. Search for learning and something you want to learn - how many 'lectures' are there on the topic? Why do students go to classrooms to be lectured at but go home to do work? Wouldn't it make sense for the teacher to be there to help with the work?
@mrstoday You're arguing for good teaching practices with the exclusion of technology. I'm saying that good teaching practices are vital with the inclusion of technology. I also haven't seen the value in smart boards but I believe that any educational system that relies entirely on hard copies and excludes electronic resources and tools is sub par. We are preparing the next generation and we have to use modern tools. Analyzing those tools is vital, but they must also be included.

Stop pushing technology. It was a progressive marketing ploy when Apples arrived in every classroom. If you want 21st Century HUMANS to be proficient learners, show them how to teach themselves-. Show them how to COMPREHEND text & voice. Encourage them to ask WHY and How and to dig in all the media sources until they can answer it. Electronic doo-dads help the manufacturer and the sales force, they DO NOT enhance thinking-doing and engagement with data and information enhance thinking.

@msrtoday Life long learning is very important as you say and if you listen to this video it is all about learning, not about technology and electronic doo-dads. You can't ignore the importance of technology in education just as you can't ignore the importance of technology in the world today. You also can't dismiss it as merely a marketing ploy, like some conspiracy theory. Technology provides tools, environments, and contexts for learning, to prepare students for the world after academia.
