Five years ago, an early childhood education facility was opened in the Siloba area of Bungoma District in western Kenya.

The school enrolled its first students in January 2005, having been constructed in 2004 with generous co-funding from the Brendan Keating Memorial Fund.

Through its country representative in Kenya, William Keyah, Gorta has remained in contact with the school since.

During his most recent visit, William found that the school has been such a success that, in a community where education has traditionally been undervalued, parents are now hoping that this school can expand to be able to educate the children through the full Primary School cycle.

William also sat down with some of the parents to hear what impact they feel the school has made in its first years and what further steps might now be needed to help the children and the community.
