How to warm and cold boot the Motorola mc9000 series handheld mobile computers.

For the MC9090 cold boot, press in the two battery release levers on both sides of the keyboard. The battery will pop out half way. Then press and hold the scan trigger and the red power button for 10 seconds, then push the battery back in from its halfway out position. The MC9090 will power on now by itself and if it does not say "Warm Boot" on the first screen, they you have successfully cold boot the device.

  • Is there any other way of realigning the screen withot tapping the crosshairs? My scanner takes forever to realign.

  • @TheKiwitane Motorola reps have informed us that this is a requirement of the computer's Operating System.

  • Can you show us a clean boot?

How do you disable a program from running at start up on the MC9000 series?

How the OS is windows based can you boot in safe mode?

  • @simdude2u The “clean boot” and “cold boot” are the in theory the same thing. Some manufactures call it a clean boot[intermec is one] and some will call it a cold boot[Motorola is one of those]. They are both intended to set the device back to factory or out of the box settings.

We've added more details to the video description to further explain the MC9090 cold boot.

  • @simdude2u We use a program called AppCenter from Motorola that will lock out certain programs and auto start others, depending on the configuration. A .run file can be placed in the /Application/Startup folder and that will cause it to start. Also a .cpy file can be placed in the /Application directory which can copy a shortcut into the /windows/startmenu/startup[this may not be exact] folder which also cause the auto start. Check the /Application folder for any of these things.
